COSMO-SkyMed ( COnstellation of small Satellites for Mediterranean basin Observation ) is the largest Italian investment in space systems for earth observation, commissioned and funded by Italian Space Agency ( ASI ) and Italian Ministry of Defense ( MoD ). COSMO-SkyMed is at the forefront of global technology with high-resolution. X-band ( 9.6 GHz with a wavelength of 3.1 cm ) synthetic aperture radar ( SAR ) and it observed the Earth day or night.

Observation Temporal Spans
In this configuration the first and second satellite allow an interferometric repeat cycle of 8 days and the third and second satellite make possible interferometric acquisitions with a decorrelation time equal to only 1 day, the third and fourth satellite make possible interferometric acquisitions with a decorrelation time equal to only 1 day. This's why COSMO-SkyMed is very useful for disaster emergency observation.

Real Case
When Typhoon Soulik hitted North of Taiwan in July 11, 2013. The most important thing is to collect instant information. However, It's very difficult for reconnaissance of disaster in inclement weather, so detection in remote sensing will be the best way on this condition. SAR has ability to penetrate cloud cover makes it particularly valuable on a cloudy day, SAR satellites can collect cloud-free images when the storm comes. It would be much more quickly to collect real-time data with SAR satellite images.
In order to provide quick service for all users, we support planning and collecting SAR data of COSMO-SkyMed. At first, we provided an feasibility study for users. When the order has been confirmed by clients,we required satellite's OEM to start emergency programming services.
After data collection,our experienced team started to process orthoimage and exported data in delivery format. we have also data value-added and web publishing services.
Furthermore, we provided preliminary results from image analysing with automatic interpretation of bare area. The procedure was talking a short time less than 8 hours, and it's efficiently in emergency events.
